The Client and the Site

GLL is a charitable social enterprise that has recently begun to run its sport, leisure and cultural facilities under the brand name Better. With over 115 leisure centres, 6,000 staff and more than 38 million visits per year, they are the largest operator of accessible sports and leisure centres in the UK, and the first UK leisure operator to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark and the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award.

GLL’s many centres have various diverse needs in terms of audio visual systems, however visitors to their centres will fairly often see and hear background music systems, digital signage, headphone distribution systems (to cardio machines) as well as foreground music / public address (PA) sound systems in their studios.

The Brief

Crossover’s long-standing relationship with GLL began when the company was asked to survey the site of Wimbledon Leisure Centre and propose a substantial upgrade to the existing AV systems, as part of a large-scale refurbishment of the site. A virtually new background audio system, a completely new studio PA system, half a dozen HD digital signage displays, and a complete repair and reconfiguration of the TV and music systems feeding the cardio machines – those were all part of the requirement, in order to help modernise the gym and aid its transition from previous GLL branding to the current branding as a Better leisure centre.

The Solution

Crossover completed the Wimbledon Leisure Centre installation so impressively that GLL centres across Greater London began requesting additional work on their audio visual systems. From countless additional digital signage displays and background music systems to complex systems overhauls, such as helping many GLL (or “Better”) centres upgrade their TV aerial systems in line with 2012’s digital switchover, Crossover has since had a steady and reliable flow of installation projects and maintenance work from GLL’s vast network of centres. Aside from the aforementioned Wimbledon Leisure Centre, Crossover has since completed significant AV installation works in Phoenix Fitness Centre in White City, Hammersmith Fitness and Squash Centre, Canons Leisure Centre and many more.

Really pleased we ended up choosing Crossover, not only was it the most competitive proposal, but I can’t imagine another company delivering the project to such a high standard and taking care so well of all of the little issues that popped up after the refurbishment was completed.
